Data analysis using the PQE method

For all data, the general guidelines when describing a map and or graph are
P- General pattern. This should be your first couple of sentences. What is the general thing/ pattern you notice from the data ? i.e. the predominant colour/ pattern/ location of the things you are being asked to describe ( this section should be 1-3 sentences long)
Q- Quantification. This is a fancy way of saying, to use figures/-adding statistics, naming regions and/ location. This is the main part of your answer ( at least 3-5 sentence in length)
E- Exceptions. At times, in some maps or graphs, there are things that did not fit the overall pattern. These are called exceptions or anomalies. Look for these .(this section should be 2-3 sentences long).

Words to use

Maps and or patterns.

Sparse, dense, evenly spaced, clustered, radial, random, ribbon, nucleated, use of direction i.e. located in a North East direction, Scattered, use of location i.e. on the SE coast, use of distance i.e. 40 km along the coast, use of direction, use of % to explain pattern i.e. 10 % of the region is covered by…., Remember to use the data.

When you are dsribing patterns showing low to high units, divide quanitities into high, medium and low groups, Be sure that you tell me the boundaries of each group.

Graphs.
Uneven ,even, gradual /rapid increase, decrease, static, erratic, sudden increase, slow, fast increase, corresponding changes,
Make sure you mention years, dates and units of measurements.
